The Client provides:

Site Characteristics – a site layout, that includes the site address, North orientation arrow, topography, vegetation (location and height) and adjacent buildings (location and height).

Home Requirements – or general layout of your home, including style of home, proposed size of home including number of levels and square footage, proposed construction budget and any specific design issues, e.g., special views.

SunSmartHome provides:

Proposed House Siting – a site plan, that includes the specific house orientation on your site to maximize solar gain for winter heating.

Proposed House Plans -

  • Phase I is a conceptual design to review style and floor plan layout.
  • Phase II are preliminary plans which are dimensioned floor plans and detailed house elevations for all views.
  • Phase III are the final construction documents which includes specifications and drawings to obtain permits and build the home. House plans include window placement to maximize solar gain and minimize heat loss, overhangs and trellises to provide summer shading for cooling, slab requirements for heat storage, and duct requirements for air circulation and convection.

SunSmartHome performs:

Energy Analysis – simulations and comprehensive analysis of house load requirements, heat loss, solar gain, and estimated winter heating and summer cooling requirements.

Energy Calculations – a complete set of key energy-related calculations, to include estimated backup furnance requirements, slab specifications (area & thickness), percent of heating by solar, and estimated annual heating costs and savings.
